VIENNA DAYS at 2020 gallery
12 May 2004

The exhibition Formate curated by Georg Schollhammer was the first show at 2020 to be part of an official programme. The wider program Formate gathered together different art spaces in Bucharest and established a line-up of alternative spaces such as Lia Perjovschi Contemporary art archive or the 2020 Gallery, as well as the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The show at 2020 was cross between fresh contemporary art and street art samples and a presentation by Monika Vykoukal from Vienna, followed by the live music performance of Werner Moebius.

This was the moment when 2020 was ready to receive its quta of earbending sounds. Werner pushed the audience into the nether world of rebounding analog sounds and compressed atmospherics, so typicall of all his live performances. In the wake of it we felt the entire building taking a long, sonorous breath of air.
The Formate-Moving Patterns show at 2020 Vienna Days as whole had something primordial to it - it was the one time when all the diverse Bucharest creative clusters participated in one big, single, celebration. And the best thing about it is the follow-up which will be a Bucharest showcase in Vienna's Kunsthalle later this year with many surprises to come. We will keep you informed on this future event as it develops.
